My favorite warm up exercise is a List Poem. It is also a great way to get the creative juices flowing if I am stuck with a blank page. It lets me concentrate on a single thought or a multitude of things going on at the same time. It is actually quite fun and productive at the same time. I can do so much with this and it can be as short or long as I want. Recently I thought I would try this again to see what I would come up with. Below is what I came up with. I smile at the memory:
In the distance, I see birds
racing against the wind.
Across the yard
leaves skip along the grass,
playing tag with morning breeze.
In golden rays between branches,
wet tendrils of a spider’s home
waving as if saying farewell.
I reach out wanting to touch it.
A spider scurries for darkness.
I smile in wonder.
